Dean Burgon Society--Independence Forever #5

The Dean Burgon Society News 126

Two of America’s former presidents died on the same day. In fact it was on the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It’s reported that the dying words of one was, “Is it the Fourth,” and the other, “Thomas Jefferson still lives.”

Today freedom in United States is being disrupted. How much longer will there be independence? Praise the Lord we still have access to the very Words of God in our own language. The Dean Burgon Society still stands, “In Defense of Traditional Bible Texts.”

Some would say many governors around the United States are challenging James Madison’s famous amendments. At this very hour the state leaders overseeing Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York have agreed to impose self quarantine requirements on residence from nineteen “hot states” who pass into the three state coalition.

Anyone living in or coming from Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi. North Carolina, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, or Utah must self quarantine for fourteen days if they cross the bounders of either Connecticut, New Jersey, or New York.

New Jersey is slowly moving to normal (if that type of restriction is normal). Governor Murphy has a SIX step plan to return to pre-COVID days. It seems the citizens of the state are encouraged to protest the police, but are warned of the dangers of assembling for worship. Currently New Jersey is on step number TWO.

The executives in your state may have different requirements. Because of the independent and diverse guidelines from various states, the officers of the Society have determined it prudent to hold this year’s annual meeting on a platform known as GoToMeeting.

This year's conference was originally slated for Marietta, Georgia—COVID changed all that. We are now presented with a wonderful opportunity like never before: to let all our home churches participate with us at the conference over GoToMeeting.

Bible For Today Baptist Church will have its doors open during the entire conference for anyone wanting to view the meeting corporately. This will allow more seats to remain open in the GoToMeeting room, and it will also provide an opportunity for extra needed fellowship during these challenging times.
I would encourage your home church to do something similar—especially if you are one of the speakers. The textual issue is not just for pastors but for the entire body of Christ to understand. Many of the saints at our local assemblies would never be able to make the trip to Georgia. Please consider involving them during this year's COVID conference for some if not all of the sessions.

It is strongly recommended that you visit the Society’s meeting room a few times each week prior the July 29-30, 2020 conference. If you DO NOT have access to the internet you can phone (Toll Free): 1-877 309 2073 and enter conference code 432284365 when prompted

GoToMeeting might be the only way to view the conference this year. We are looking forward to seeing you
