WHY “FROM THE TENT DOOR”?
Dear Readers,
THE BIBLE FOR TODAY has begun posting my daily devotions from my daily Bible reading. Lord willing, there will be one for every day of the year, using my husband’s, Pastor D. A. Waite, YEARLY BIBLE READING SCHEDULE. I wrote these “blessings” in 2009. Truly, it was a great blessing to me, as well as a mammoth daily project and a lesson in determination. As you may or may not know, mainly, I write for women. I trust you will be blessed.
WHY CALL IT “FROM THE TENT DOOR.”
After many attempts for a title for these “blessings,” I have decided to return to the name I used for scores of years when my husband wrote a monthly BIBLE FOR TODAY NEWS REPORT. In that NEWS REPORT, I had a whole page/column called FROM THE TENT DOOR. People from all over the world received the BFT NEWS REPORT, In so doing, they read my column. Many people got to know me through this writing.
SARAH WAS IN HER TENT
I chose “FROM THE TENT DOOR” because I, like Sarah of old, stayed in my tent–my house. If you recall that was where Sarah was when she learned that she and Abraham were to have a baby whom they named Isaac.
And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
AS A YOUNG WIFE, I LEARNED MANY LESSON FROM THE LIFE OF SARAH (I Peter 3:6-7). In fact I have written and taught extensively on her life.
For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their ownhusbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whosedaughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with anyamazement.
In learning about SARAH, I found that things went well with her as long as she stayed in her tent with Abraham where she belonged. Otherwise there were problems! That is basically WHY I decided to name this daily “blessing” FROM THE TENT DOOR.
